On Foot

Let me write poems on your feet
in clouds of henna,
take you places you’ve never been.

Come with me to distant galaxies,
my words glowing in your wake
to flare across the night sky

and haunt your dreams.

(This poem was previously published in Poetry Cornwall. I made the collage in response to the poem)

I like it, goes with the picture and brings other images as well. I loved the last line and "clouds of henna"

I loved seeing the image and the poem together. Great work. I agree - "Let me write poems on your feet
in clouds of henna," is wonderful.

"Let me write poems on your feet

Love the image, love the poem. Very tight language. I think the poem can stand on its own, without the image. Nice job!

"my words glowing in your wake

I read and reread these words. They aren't fly-by-night images, these are the real things - great monolithic structures.

But, in truth, your words say all that need to be said in this stanza.

You describe an exciting journey that could lead those who dare, anywhere. Wonderful poem.

And the collage is very inspired and inspiring. (Sorry, forgot to say that in my first comment.)

hiya,
love both the poem and your collage. Love seeing other facets of you! That FANTASTIC opening draws me in by my "soul." (Truly does; am not kidding.)

Ironically, I posted a photo of my dancing feet, but not for poetry thursday. (It's in a post with the top half of me, altered somewhat... under the poetry thursday post: it's called "Balance Wk#4." Not a collage though. )

HI there, thanks for all your comments. Jessica, the poem did stand on its own two feet (so to speak!) for quite a while! GeL, just got back from visiting your PT prompt but will need to go back asap to look at your feet....

Very good. Henna is used in my country too often.

Very nice. I love the compactness. The mythic proportions of the speaker's requests hint that maybe this is a relationship that can only be fantasized about? And the final line indicates a little, perhaps subconscious, bitterness about that? That's just what crossed my mind while reading it. In any case, thanks so much for sharing it.

The clouds of henna line is lovely, and the collage to go with it is lovely as well. Beautiful!

Nice.

You do some very good stuff :)

Thanks for your comments. Jon you're sort of right about it, but the poem actually grew from a friend saying she wrote on her feet in henna and I thought that was cool and it became a poem.
