Out of Time

Out of Time

We spend our lives
trying to make time fly -
high octance adventures,
reality tv,
shopping for the perfect
clock for the mantelpiece.
Scared to sit and enjoy
moments out of time.

Later we worry
time is running out -
hold onto fleeting youth,
get cosmetic surgery,
can't face the clock
on the crumbling mantelpiece.
Scared of where we'll be
when we find ourselves out of time.

I like how you return to the clock on the mantel, now crumbling. How true.

This has a frantic sort of pacing to it, makes the reader feel the urgency of passing time. Very well done.

A brilliant piece, and oh how true!

Oh wow, sooo much truth in this poem!

Like Twitches, I like how your revisited the clock on the manglepiece and the "scared of" lines to tie it all together.

Love the images of "modern life" contrasted with a crumbling clock. Poignant and nicely paced.
