Vertigo

She is panic attacked by the vertigo of wanting you,
the sweet sad darkness of desire,
the magnetic north of you.
The undertow.

Dream-stated by watching you dance
she anticipates more than fate could give,
loses sleep and weight,
creates unconsoling poetry from stolen glances,
waits for chances that will never come.

She is haunted by the knowledge
of all she will never know,
wishes the impossibility of you
were not so complete.

Wants to learn
how to fall.

The Body Knows for Poetry Thursday.

I'm always amazed by how you manage to come up with not one, but two wonderful contributions each week.

Juliet,
I had a conversation, just yesterday, with a young girl at work about the very feelings you've described here. She has a "crush" on a co-worker who is married. I told her enjoy it in her mind if she must, but to pursue it no farther, for the reality never meets the expectation of the fantasy.
Of course you say it much more eloquently here.

The ending is just so right here, so quick and final with that last, sharp line.

We do need to learn how to fall. Only then we can rise above. Very good post.

Wow.

I went down the "he's out of my league" path, not the "truly unavailable to me" one. I can remember "loving" from afar, feeling just this way.

Beautiful thoughts here.

"creates unconsoling poetry from stolen glances"

Wow--that line is put so perfectly, and I think a lot of us have been there.

So sad. Very nice work.

This is frightening - this expression of something that I've felt so many times, yet written in your words. You've captured this feeling perfectly.

First of all Crafty, I love that you have this alter ego. I have a similar thing going on: my incredulous OCD kind of crazy PWADJ, and my businessminded, career oriented Poet with a capital P at contest central.

Second of all: This is a terrific poem. I really like

"She is haunted by the knowledge
of all she will never know,"

it is one of the continuing themes in my poetry - getting to the meat of why is that? And how is it even possible: for if you dont' know it, how could it haunt you! Yet, you do know all that you don't, the body senses it. And so, your poem. Very ncie work.

It is superb. How did you get inside my head like that? Such frustration captured perfectly.

I can feel how this person exerts a magnetic attraction over the narrator.

Wow, you really nailed it, exactly how I felt when I had a crush on one of my professors years ago. Those fantasies kept me emotionally scarred for a long, long time!

Thanks for stopping by and your comment on my poem, "Taste." I'd never thought of it as a dramatic monologue...I'll have to see if I expand on it.

Hello, again,

It's the last line of this poem that stands out for me... learning to fall... in love, perhaps?

Thank you, again, for sharing your words,

Rachel
