Here the craft of those ancient artisans is impressive. The arches and stonework shows a place where quality has a lasting presence. Modern architecture often tries to evoke the past, but the more impressive look f the past was built long ago...

all those abbeys with the roofs torn off and the convenient quarry for local masons. . . are such a treasure aren't they? Some of the best shadows on earth are to be found in the ruins of a monastery or a castle. I read the story of sweetheart abbey and was reminded of a few we've managed to visit. . .tintern, glastonbury, elgin cathedral. Your picture is stunning. I can almost hear the pure, wonderful silence.
