First Kiss

Lips and the absurdity of tongues.

For some this moment
is a fumbling end to potential intimacy
in clashing braces
the taste of nicotine breath

For us though, twelve years ago
the lips that had smiled and spoken
finally met
sweet tongues explored mouths
gently

a beginning of forever.

Kissing for Sunday Scribblings. I also thought it was about time to post a happy love poem, which is truer to my personal reality than my endless poems of unrequited love, though those too are true in their own way.

Juliet,
Oh how I remeber the taste of nicotine breath. High school graduation night. For me, nothing surpresses ardor as much as that.

Howerver, sweet kisses are surely a joy to savor.

It sounds like a wonderful beginning with an even happier ending... thanks for sharing this very intimate poem.

Very romantic poem. But really, how do smokers not understand that nicotine breath is a result of their indulgence??!!Kills the romance.

Beautiful. I love "the absurdity of tongues." I know! Those were exactly my thoughts during my first real kiss.

Lovely. Especially the end.

I agree about the taste of nicotine breath. It can be off-putting, yet it usually generates memories of the first true kiss.

I wandered off to the side of you blog and ended up reading this marvellous haiku:

"dans la forêt
un bruyant orgasme
chevreuil effrayé

in the forest
a noisy orgasm -
frightened stag"

Hi everyone - glad you enjoyed this! Rethabile, glad you found the French Erotic hiaku, there are some excellent haiku in that book (for those who read French). Anyone else who wants to read my review, just scroll down this blog a wee bit.

The bad kisses are fresh in my memory. Need more good kisses to block them out! Thanks for sharing your poem.

Clashing braces, nicotine breath, absurd tongues, so often true of first kisses, and yet sometimes the first kiss is the most memorable. Lovely.

It's beautiful :)

Hi there and thanks for the comments!

Dani - here's to more good kisses!

Tarakuanyin - I think that's why the first kiss is often so memorable!

Love this. Tender, true, and everlasting.
Entire piece is perfect.
Particularly love "absurdity of tongues"
and "a beginning of forever". I have to say Awwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Oh, yes, I easily relate to your postscript! I'm happily married. However, writing in the first person about serious times I imagine, embellish, or are memories has elicited received very concerned emails about some of my intense poetry. Intense feelings of any type lend themselves to poetic inspiration more easily for me. For other topics, I write in prose.

Hopefully, my audio post of the current poem, with the blooper guffaws and laughter as my tongue tripped over a word, will ease up some reader concerns!)

HI Gel, yes I noticed that behind your sometimes anguished poetry was a happily married woman! I think people seem more likely to take poetry at face value than other types of writing. I've had people commenting to say they hope I find someone because I've written poems of unrequited love.
