I self-consciously pocketed
the image of cowbells
as a text-book ‘poetic moment’
to add authentic colour.
Now, looking back
I dwell on the disintegration
of our friendship
that began that day.
And the endless melancholy of cowbells.

oh this is good!
i suppose most of us have an object or sound (or other sensory stimulus) that bear a special meaning...
Image, thought and feeling beautifully encapsulated.
sound of cowbells....reverbates.
the endless melancholy of cowbells. wow. i love this line!
Juliet,
A beautiful verse to remind us of how anchored to nature are our emotions.

Cowbells are so melancholy - great ending!
Brilliant use of sound to capture an emotional state.
nicely done. the more "feeling" part drapes well across the concrete frame you set up with the shape and sound of the bells.
A very thoughtful poem. Nice!
a visual reminder of a memory can be a powerful thing...
So much in these 8 lines. Great!
You've blown me away with this short, noticeably inspired piece. ^_^ I applaud. Cheers.
pocketed the image of cowbells - my favorite line. The depth of the poem with a little surprise, a staying sadness and a lovely use of words is indeed inspired!
Very concise, with lots of meaning packed into a short piece. Well done!
Ah yes. I used to paint. For the last 5 months I can't paint or even look at any art supplies without thinking of betrayal. Strange but true.
Mmmm. There's so much I like about this, but most of all how the cowbells echo my own (your reader) instances of regret. Fine poem.
That first stanza is a grabber- well done!
and carries through the entire piece.
thank you for almost getting me to stop associating cowbells with Christopher Walken and Will Ferrell doing the SNL "more cowbell" skit...
